Prepare to be wowed at Winchester Food Festival
Winchester Food Festival is not just about amazing Hampshire producers, it’s also a showcase of our local culinary talent. Hampshire Fare are putting together a packed programme of demonstrations and talks that will take place on 14 July in Winchester Cathedral’s Outer Close.
Cooking up a storm on the Chef’s Kitchen stage will be Matt Whitfield. Matt is executive chef for the Ideal Collection whose establishments include The White Horse in Otterbourne and Kimbridge Barn near Romsey. Matt will be joined stage with his sous chef, Tom Nabulsi.
Also taking to the Chef’s Kitchen stage is Colin Savory, the Head Chef of the Northbrook Arms in East Stratton. Since leading the kitchen at The Northbrook Arms, he has been showing how pub food can be both classic and interesting focusing on cooking from scratch and local ingredients.
Two other local chefs will be competing in a challenge to prepare dishes showcasing ingredients they have found at the Festival. Think ready Steady Cook goes local, with the audience picking the winner! The chefs in question are Martin Dawkins, also known as The Rustic Chef, who boasts over two decades of culinary experience, earning three rosettes and recognition from the Michelin guide.
Martin will be competing against Gary Morton-Jones who heads up the in the open kitchen of the recently launched, Kavi on Jewry Street. With over 30 years of experience in award-winning restaurants, @tastygarybites is an expert in creating delicious food using local ingredients.
If you would like some tips about creating perfect summer canapes, then you won’t want to miss Catherine Thurston from bespoke caterers, The Little Kitchen Company. She will be showing us how to wow your guests with some local tasty bites.
Lola Rubio from Two&One will be sharing her expertise of cooking with olive oil. Two&One is the fusion of two cultures, Spanish heritage and British passion, merged into one healthy lifestyle. An Anglo-Spanish family business, born in the heart of Hampshire. They are on a mission is to bring this superfood firmly into the British diet.
Hayley Elston, AKA the Codmother, from the Fabulous Catch Company in Calshot, will be sharing her experience of winning Aldi’s next Big Thing on Channel 4 and seeing her Cabulous Crabcake on the supermarket shelves.
