Urban Foraging Workshop in Winchester
July 10, 18.00 – 20.00, Central Winchester
During this 2 hour workshop from Experience Hampshire will cover the basics of foraging. Even in the city, you’ll be amazed at the amount of nettles and wild strawberries, edible seeds, leaves, flowers, fungi, roots, shoots that there are to be found!
We’ll meet outside Shoal, the fish and chip restaurant situated under the Guildhall and walk a circular 2 hour route. You can even enjoy a fish and chip supper at Shoal before the workshop with a special 10% discount available (Opens at 1630).
Freya, our guide for this experience, is renowned as the ultimate forager and a true master of the natural world. With an innate connection to the countryside, Freya’s keen eye and acute senses enable her to spot hidden flora, fauna, and edible treasures that elude most others. Her knowledge of plants, mushrooms, and herbs is encyclopedic, and she can identify even the rarest species with confidence. Freya’s foraging prowess not only provides her with sustenance, but also fuels her passion for sharing her discoveries with others, leading workshops like this to impart her wisdom.
We’ll finish our walk around Winchester with a wild snack preprepared by Freya. This could be a cup of wild soup with foraged garnishes, a hunk of homemade sourdough with some wild pesto, or even a slice of cake! The walk will be slow-paced. Please wear weather appropriate clothes, sturdy shoes and feel free to bring a notebook or smartphone/camera to help you remember all the information!
